Begin selling air tickets for lunar new year 2021

Vietnam’s budget airline Vietjet Air and hybrid carrier Bamboo Airways on Wednesday began selling tickets for domestic flights during the 2021 Lunar New Year, which falls next February.

Bamboo Airways will offer 1.2 – 1.5 million tickets for flights on all domestic routes scheduled for between January 22 and February 28, 2021.

Notably, tickets for domestic routes between Hai Phong and Quy Nhon, Hanoi and Quy Nhon, and Hanoi and Phu Quoc will be offered at promotional prices of VND99,000-149,000 (US$4.3-6.5) apiece, excluding taxes and fees.

Likewise, Vietjet Air has put 1.5 million seats on 50 domestic routes on sale to serve increased demand for the period.

The sooner passengers buy the tickets, the cheaper prices they will enjoy, Vietjet Air said.

In addition to seven kilograms of hand baggage, all passengers buying Vietjet Air tickets for domestic journeys from August 12 to October 24, 2020 will enjoy an additional 15 kilograms of free checked baggage.

The budget airline is also providing tickets for the Ho Chi Minh City-Hanoi route at VND399,000 ($17.3) apiece, exclusive of taxes and fees.

Meanwhile, national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines, its low-cost arm Pacific Airlines, and subsidiary VASCO have made no announcements regarding the sale of Tet air tickets.

There are five commercial airlines in operation in Vietnam: Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, Vietjet Air, Vietnam Air Services Company (VASCO), and Bamboo Airways.

Lunar New Year 2021 will fall on February 12, 2021, with preparations and celebrations typically lasting a week before and after the date.

During the year’s biggest national holiday, droves of people are expected to return to their hometowns from big cities, inflating travel demand for the period.
