Covid-19
The Ministry of Health reported more than 9,600 domestic COVID-19 infections in Vietnam on single day 12 Aug 2021, including over 3,800 patients in Ho Chi Minh City.
The Vietnamese government has requested Ho Chi Minh City to put the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak under control prior to September 15. On Tuesday 10 Aug 2021, the government issued Resolution No. 86 on urgent COVID-19 prevention and control measures to soon quell the pandemic and prevent health, economic, and social crisis. The resolution stated that localities where social distancing measures under the prime minister’s Directives No. 15 and 16 are being imposed must make sure all regulations are strictly followed. Ho Chi Minh City must strive to control the ongoing outbreak before September 15, while the southern provinces of Binh Duong, Long An, and Dong Nai must achieve the same goal prior to September 1. Other localities in the country will strive to put the pandemic under control by August 25.

Vietnam’s food delivery service Now rebranded as ShopeeFood. E-commerce giant Shopee has officially announced the rebranding of food delivery service Now in Vietnam to ShopeeFood from August 18. Now is a food delivery platform run by local tech firm Foody Corporation, 82 percent of whose shares were acquired by Singapore-based Internet company Sea Group in 2017. In addition to food delivery app Now, the NowShip service will be renamed ShopeeExpress Instant.

NFT created by 14-year-old Vietnamese artist sells for $23,000. A non-fungible token (NFT) created by Ho Chi Minh City-based teen artist Xeo Chu titled ‘The Lucky Apricot Blossom’ recently raked in US$23,000 in an auction on Binance’s NFT marketplace.
